What is an Annual Water Quality Report?

The Annual Water Quality Report (AWQR) is designed to provide consumers with information on the quality of water within their public water system. All water suppliers are required by law to provide this information to their customers by the end of May for the previous year’s water quality. It is a summary of the sample results, listing the minimum and maximum levels detected of each of the parameters tested within that year. If any violations occurred, they are required to be listed, as well.

It is also important to be aware that because a contaminant has been detected, it does not necessarily mean that it is in the distribution system. This is a report of all the results taken within a calendar year. Bethpage Water District monitors the raw water supply continually in order to trend the quality of water within the Magothy aquifer, the source of our drinking supply. Any particular well may or may not operate based on the sample results received but the results are still required to be reported to the public, regardless of the outcome.
