Set and Edit Flow Alerts

The system lets you and your customers that are using EyeOnWater set flow and leak alerts on a per-meter basis.  NOTE:  Each meter has a single alert, so whenever a utility changes an alert threshold, it will affect the threshold set by the corresponding EyeOnWater user and vice versa.

Leak Alerts
Because Beacon and consequently EyeOnWater have no way of knowing whether someone left the water on accidentally or turned it on intentionally, the system detects potential leaks by looking for 24 consecutive hours of flowing water above a specified limit called an alert threshold.  When you or an EyeOnWater user set an alert threshold, the system looks back 24 consecutive hours from the most recent time the meter communicated with BEACON.  If the threshold was exceeded during that time, an alert will be sent.  If flow dropped to zero or below the threshold, even if the flow was exceeded one or more times in that last 24 hour period, no alert will be sent.

What threshold should an EyeOnWater user set?

While there is no one-size-fits-all answer to that question, we recommend that EyeOnWater users set a low threshold of no more than 1 to 5 gallons per hour.  This will help spot the most common sources of household leaks including dripping faucets, leaking toilets and broken sprinkler pipes.

In the alert configuration menu, select intermittent flow and click the next arrow.  Set a maximum flow threshold and click the next arrow.

Type the email address of the individual to get the alert notifications into the Add Email box and click the plus sign.  Repeat this step as many times as needed to add all of the desired email addresses.

NOTE:  To send the alert as an SMS text message to a phone, the phone number must be entered as an email address.  For example: 5558675309@txt.att.net

Set the interval for the reminder message (Day, 2 Day, 3 Day) and click the next arrow.  NOTE:  The default interval is DAY.  If an interval of week or month was set previously, it automatically updates to 3 days.

Verify that the alert is set correctly in the preview.

Select the desired notification using the START (send a notice at the start of the leak), REMINDER (warns of an existing leak) and STOP (alerts you when a leak stops) tabs.
