Board of Comissioners
The Bethpage Water District Board of Commissioners is comprised of three individuals who live in the district's service area. They are each elected by the public to serve a three-year term, during which time they jointly oversee all operations of the water district.
They are active members of professional public drinking water organizations such as the Long Island Water Conference, the American Water Works Association and Nassau-Suffolk Water Commissioners Association, where they work to maintain the quality and quantity of Long Island's drinking water. This includes the constant exchange of information with other water professionals as well as working with local elected officials to ensure that they best represent the area's interests on a state and federal level among other activities.
Current Water Commissioners
John F. Coumatos, Chairman
Commissioner Coumatos is a Bethpage High School graduate, a Bethpage resident and local Bethpage business owner. After attending Nassau County Community College and Hofstra University, Coumatos began working at and eventually became the owner of B.K. Sweeney’s Parkside Tavern, a vital part of the Bethpage Downtown for decades serving generations of Bethpage families.
The commissioner continues to be an active volunteer in the community as a member of the Knights of Columbus and Bethpage Chamber of Commerce, being named “Man of the Year” by the chamber in 2010 and Grand Marshall of the Bethpage St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2007. He continues to give back to his community as a frequent donor to St. Martin of Tours Church, St. Vincent De Paul Society and as host of the B.K. Sweeney’s annual Thanksgiving feast for over 100 veterans from the Veteran’s center in Northport, NY and St. Albans, NY for many years.
His past experience also includes volunteer efforts with the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency. The commissioner’s experience as a volunteer, business owner and resident will aid him as he works to protect the community’s water supply.

Theresa M. Black, Treasurer
I have given my adult life to the betterment of Bethpage through my years of community service. My family has been here for four generations and have all owned businesses here. Having attended the Navy RAB meetings, as well as other community meetings on this matter for nearly 20 years, I have monitored this situation as a resident, business owner and owner of a building on Broadway in Bethpage. I believe the Bethpage Water District has been moving in the right direction with the work they have done in bringing the Navy and Northrup Grumman into the remediation process. I believe that this situation is remediable, but I believe it should be done via direct negotiations with the involved parties. I am a skilled negotiator and I hope to assist the water district at this vital time.

Scott A. Greco, Secretary
Commissioner Greco graduated from Bethpage High School in 1980 and went on to attend the Academy of Aeronautics. While pursuing his Aeronautics degree, he also took an interest in electrical engineering, plumbing, and business management, all of which are relevant towards his knowledge of the water industry. Mr. Greco went on to become a partner in Greco Bros Fuel Corp. which operated for 53 years before being sold to Petro Inc. in 2000. He continues to work for Petro in their service department.
It is a true honor to have been elected as Commissioner of the Bethpage Water District. My family has a rich history of dedication to the Bethpage Water District as both my father and grandfather have served as past commissioners. Along with the pride I feel for being an active member in my hometown, I’m motivated and determined to continue the great work of this District to hold polluters accountable and ensure nothing stands in the way of us providing or residents with the highest quality water at the lowest possible cost.
As a dedicated member of the Bethpage community, Commissioner Greco has served as a volunteer firefighter in Bethpage for the past 33 years and currently serves as a Department Trustee. In addition, he has been a proud and active member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 14 years.
