Water District to Complete District-Wide Meter Replacement Project

District to Install New Meters with Help of Saks Metering

In an effort to meet a Fall 2015 deadline, the Bethpage Water District Board of Commissioners Chairman William J. Ellinger, John R. Sullivan and Gary S. Bretton has contracted with an outside firm to complete the district’s water meter upgrade project. The project, which began in the summer of 2014, aims to replace all existing water meters with high-tech meters that allow residents to digitally track their daily water usage. The new digital meter system allows the Bethpage Water District to catch any problems as they happen, which results in a savings on not only consumption, but possible property damage.

“The introduction of these new meters will help residents better recognize trends and any issues with their service, such as leaks, before it impacts their bill,” said William J. Ellinger, Chairman of Bethpage Water Board of Commissioners. “We have contracted with Saks Metering, at no costs to residents, in an effort to provide this new service to our community in a timely manner.”

A Saks Metering representative will call residences beginning in June to notify residents when they will be in the area to replace the old water meters. If a Saks Metering employee visits a residence and no one is home, he or she will leave a door hanger with his or her contact information to schedule an appointment for installation. During the installation, there will be a temporary disruption to water service and the Saks Metering employee will require access to homes.

The BWD Water Commissioners ask residents to exercise caution when opening their door to any person claiming to work for the Bethpage Water District. All Saks Metering employees wear uniforms, ID badges and travel in marked vehicles. Most water meters are located in household basements.
